After 18 months of uncertainty and fear in our families, let’s take a few moments to have fun together and focus on the emotional well-being of our children and ourselves.  

We are thrilled to welcome David Thomas back to Henderson’s First Baptist for our Family Matters Conference!  

David is the Director of Family Counseling at Daystar Counseling (daystarcounseling.com) in Nashville, TN, the co-author of eight books, including the best-selling Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing Boys and Are My Kids on Track? The 12 Emotional, Social & Spiritual Milestones Your Child Needs to Reach. He is a frequent guest on national television and podcasts, including his own called Raising Boys and Girls, has been featured in publications like The Washington Post and USA Today, and speaks across the country.

October 15th Schedule – 5:15-7:30pm 

  • 5:15-6:00 p.m.–Pizza and Salad Bar Dinner
  • Childcare available by reservation only at 6 p.m.

Friday Session:  

Navigating the Emotional World of Children and Teens. 

This workshop will focus on understanding the emotional development of young children, the elements of emotion and how they process feelings.  We will also explore temperament as a foundation for understanding emotion and our calling to be good stewards of children’s emotional and spiritual well-being.  Parents and educators will also be introduced to the concept of reading between the lines as a means of understanding emotion in a child’s behavior.  The seminar will end with practical ideas for furthering a child’s emotional development. 

October 16th Schedule – 8:45 a.m.–12:00 p.m. 

  • 8:45-9:15 a.m.–Continental Breakfast
  • 9:15-10:15 a.m.–Family Fun Video Scavenger Hunt
  • Childcare available by reservation only at 10:15 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.–Session
  • 12:00-2:00 p.m.–Family Cookout and Games

Saturday Session: 

Nurturing Resilience in Children and Teens. 

We all want to raise resilient kids, but how do we actually do that?  Join David for this important conversation to define Resilience, take a look at the biggest barriers to building it, and more importantly, the intentional practices to help kids develop it.
